Proposed shift rules for MIPP ============================= [1] A shift is an 8-hour interval spent on-site, watching the detector and is worth one credit. Shifts are dailey from 8A-4:30P, 4:00P - 11:59P, 11:59P-8:30A next day. [2] A backup shift is a 1-week interval spent on site at Fermilab during which the shift taker is ready to substitute for shift takers who may fall ill or otherwise be unable to cover their assigned detector shifts. Persons on backup shift may not also sign up for detector shifts during their week of backup shift. 1 credit is given for a 1-week assignment of backup shift. [3] Personal quotas are assigned to each author. The quota is calculated as the total number of shifts during a specified time interval divided by the number of E907 authors. [4] Institutional shift quotas are equal to the total number of shifts during a specified time interval divided by the number of E907 authors times the number of authors at the given institution. [5] Each institution is responsible for 100% of the institutional quota. [6] Each author is responsible for at least 50% of their personal shift quota. Proposal: 50% -> 25% (10 shifts to 5 shifts, 5 months) [6a] No person shall complete more than 200% of their personal quota. Proposal: 200% -> 300% (40 shifts -> 60 shifts, 5 months) [7] The shift quotas will be assigned for time intervals from Feb-June, and July-December. Institutional quotas must be met by the end of each of these intervals. [8] Shifts will be scheduled in consultation with the shift coordinator. The coordinator will attempt to assign one experienced shift taker (an "expert") with one novice shift taker to each shift period. [9] In the case that the experiment expects to take beam during a time interval where no shifts have been assigned, the institution with the largest number of unscheduled shifts will be responsible for the empty slots. [10] The shift quota will be periodically adjusted for shifts where no shift taker was assigned and the detector did not take data.
