DSTs are small files with data summaries. The acronym Data Summary Tapes is a little outdated, but the concept is very useful ;)

The newest DSTs are enstore mass storage or /disks/10/JobResults/pass4a-Apr21/ on e907anaX.fnal.gov.

You can (after setting up the MIPP offline software -- do setrel development) use mkDSTmacro to get a Root .C macro to analyse a (set of) DST(s). This is useful to get quick results on small data sets.

For larger jobs it is much faster to use compiled programs. There are examples in the DSTAnalysis package. Make a test release (setrel R07.04.21; newrel -t R07.04.21 myDSTrel; cd myDSTrel; setrel; addpkg -h DSTAnalysis) and look at the code in DSTAnalysis/dstExample.cc.

The DSTs contain a Root TTree of objects of class MIPPEventSummary this class is now (more or less) stable, but I am not sure that the documentation caught up with the last changes.
